Locomotive Event Recorder
Analysis (Annotated)

Line

This accident involved the head-on collision between two trains at night in the fog. JRLA was consulted to reconstruct the collision and to analyze and integrate the event recorder data from the two trains with the control and indication log showing switch positions and signal indications at the interlocking where the collision took place. The annotated excerpt below is from one of the locomotive event recorders and was prepared by James Loumiet to show the operation of the two trains and of the interlocking signals on the locomotive's event recorder printout.
