Locomotive Event Recorder
Analysis (Tabular)

Line

This accident involved a collision between a passenger train and an automobile at a signalized highway-rail grade crossing. JRLA analyzed and integrated the event recorder data from the locomotive and the crossing signal system, with an excerpt of the results shown below. The locomotive speed and distance data had to be mathematically corrected in the table due to an error in the locomotive wheel size input when the locomotive data was originally printed. Once this was done, train and signal system operations could be determined relative to the point and time of impact.
