Railcar Rolls Through Derail

This incident involved a runaway railcar that had rolled past a derail and onto a main line track, colliding with a MBTA passenger train. JRLA was retained by MBTA to determine how the car had rolled past the derail. The railcar lead wheel and the derail were laser scanned and JRLA used the scans to match the wheel and derail profiles and the paint transfer on both objects to determine the interaction between the wheel and derail.
